I’m not digging this book. Its heavy with description, despite how the author weaves it into other things. But she keeps talking like the main character is not human but walking around in bare feet. This goes against mermaid lore enough that it needs explaining much earlier--if she's not human, what is she and how does that work in the mythology of this story?

And yet, even without the explanation of basic things around the main character, everything else so far is all description with some worldbuilding (I really don't care what color her wardrobe door is). But there's no centering of time and place and zero character development so I just don’t care.

And like NOTHING is explained. Singer. Piper. Healing stones (what's wrong with them that they need to be healed). Spirit has three unnamed and unexplained gifts? I quit.
