I don't normally read reviews in the beginning of a book but I did this time. The reviews said that the characters were great. And maybe because I had that in my mind I realized how they're…. not. I was not impressed.
Hawaiian Masquerade isn't a bad book. I didn't DNF it. But the writing is pedestrian and simple. The plot was basic and formulaic. The descriptions are specific (which is good) but unimaginative.
Overall, it's pretty prosaic. OK if you're looking for a mildly entertaining, quick read. Not much more than that.
I only found this book because someone recommended it to me. But then they said they didn't so either it wasn't who I thought or they can't remember it enough to remember they recommended it. Which, to me, says a lot about a book.
