Deuces Are Wild

Deuces are Wild is the sixth novel in O.E. Tearmann's Aces High, Jokers Wild series. I'll confess that I dove right into the series here, being unaware of the history until it was too late. That being said, this novel does a delightful job of getting me up to speed.

The country has been falling apart for years. Some could argue that it has already fallen apart. Yet people are banding together to try and make lasting change. To try and make something good out of this world.

That's where the Members of Base 1407 come into play. They are responding to the call made by the Democratic State Force. Together they're going to make one massive strike against the Corporations. If they succeed, they can finally make a significant win in their favor.

As I mentioned above, I made the mistake of diving into Aces High, Jokers Wild several books in. The sixth novel in the series, to be precise. That being said, I didn't have any trouble following along. More importantly – it wasn't a challenge to get invested in the events of Deuces are Wild.

The truth is that this novel immediately sucked me in. The multiple perspectives and characters were all so different – and interesting – that I just had to know more! Same for the world and everything going on. It's a lot to take in, but I mean that in the best ways possible.

For those curious, Tweak and Liza were my two favorites for this book, with Tweak taking first place by a tiny margin. They were the most compelling and relatable characters by far (though that isn't to say that the rest weren't interesting).

There's a lot of attention to detail in this world – something I love about sci-fi and dystopian novels. It makes something that should be entirely out of this world feel a bit more real and plausible.

Long story short – I enjoyed Deuces are Wild. I fully intend on going back and reading the previous five novels now. Yes, I already did some digging, and I'm aware that five will kick my butt. I'm okay with that.
