So… I started this right after finishing the first book. I didn’t like a couple of things out of the gate. The opening scene tears the story apart, but doesnt entirely match the same scene in the previous book. You’d think thatd be n easy thing to match or change dramatically (like tell from a different pov). But the mix of same scene that doesnt exactly match is odd. Also Nym summons all this weather catastrophe, which everyone knows only she can do, and no one comes running to check on her? Really? Also it makes two second book missteps. First, it separates the main couple which is one of the few marginally fun things in the story. Then, to fill in that gap, it brings in secondary characters from the first book that were annoying and i hoped stayed dead. I guess also, also the first book made the mistake of making Nym too powerful, especially alongside the other magical characters. Stripping her of those powers then made her even less interesting and childishly emotional and I so didn't care.
I put the book down one night less than 100 pages in and didnt pick it back up. I was bored with the turn in the story, uninterested in the characters on stage and the world just isn't especially magical or interesting.
