The Winter Charlatan (The Storyteller's Series, #3)

by Victoria McCombs

A queen raised in the shadows, and a fraud prince who needs her help.

The sole heir to the kingdom is destined to sleep for a hundred years. To hide this liability, the queen left her cursed daughter in the care of a trusted lord, while taking his son as her own. Rowan grew up hating the boy who had her crown and vowed to one day reclaim her place as queen.

But when a neighboring king threatens a war they won’t survive, Rowan must work with the fraud prince to save Elenvérs. She pledges herself as his spy in the enemy court and lives in the heart of danger. If she can’t save her kingdom before the curse hits, there may be nothing left to wake up to.

Book Three in the Storyteller's Series. Each book is set in the same world with a few overlaying character, but is a unique plot.

It was easy to blame the curse for my flaws. Easy to say that I was bitter because I’d been dealt a poor hand, jealous that others had a life I never could, and self-absorbed because of my determination to break this blasted curse.

The winter charlatan book was great, and I was super invested at a point and terrified that there would be a cliffhanger and I would need to wait for the next book. It was also well edited, which is something I like to point out because so many authors seem to have forgotten that editing is important.

I liked Rowan. Like genuinely liked this character who was trying to make her heart pure, and also reclaim her throne somehow. I liked that she was genuinely angry at her family for not trying to sort things out. I found it so interesting what happened between her and Elis, although I really do feel like her and Cassian have a weirdly rushed relationship. And the twist with Tarion, absolutely loved that!
