Only One Mistake

Despite loving the Only One series, doubts arose about Only One Mistake, book number 6. This was due in part to the featured trope, surprise/accidental pregnancy. However, the fears were for naught. Learning the circumstances behind the reason the hero did not know of the heroine’s pregnancy made it easier to appreciate the story. The decision to stick with it despite initial reservations proved to be a good one. I enjoyed all the books in the series and this was one was no exception.

This installment introduces Michael Horton, son of Max Horton, from Something So Irresistible, story. Michael was recently traded to the Dallas Oilers because of the disharmony with his previous coach.

On his first night in his town, he meets a beautiful lady, Jill Ian, who unfortunately had been stood up by her blind date. Out of sympathy for her situation, he offered to salvage her night. Soon they were having a great time together, which led to the steamiest the two had ever experienced. Unfortunate circumstances led to them losing contact with each other. They may have lost contact physically, but they were never far from each other’s thoughts.

Fast forward five months later. Michael receives the shock of his life when picking up his nieces from school. The woman who haunted his dreams was their teacher, and she was pregnant.

I had a blast with this one. Michael was such a great guy. He never hesitates to take up his responsibility. The moment he discovered his imminent fatherhood, he was all in. The way he treated Jillian made me swoon. Aww, so adorable and romantic.

I admired Jillian for her independence and strength. It could not have been easy finding out she was pregnant and not being able to locate the man responsible. She handled the situation like a champ, especially the moment Michael came back in her life.

The thing that stood out most for me was the manner in which Michael’s family embraced Jillian. They brought levity to the story with their snarky comments. They also brought  a warm and comfy vibe to the story with their love and support.
The romance which developed between Michael was endearing and slow-burning. They clearly cared about each other, but fears and insecurities stood in the way. They shared sweet, endearing, and captivating moments. Watching them navigate their journey into parenthood and finding love in the process warmed my heart.

I enjoyed coming back to this world. However, I wish they would all stop smirking. What is it with everyone and their smirks? So annoying.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Only One Mistake is a heartwarming, swoon worthy romance which appeals to fans of the genre.
