Dangerous Witness is a romantic suspense and second chance romance story. Reus does such a good job with romantic suspense so I am always excited to read her books. Darcy and Brooks were in love until Brooks accused Darcy of accepting a bribe from his father. He never asked her if she took the bribe. He just thought the worst of her. Months later, he realizes he was wrong and tries to get back into her life. She is still hurt though.
Darcy is a wedding planner and she is working on her sister's wedding to Peter Markov. Brooks recognizes that name immediately as one of the men on their list of ner-do-wells involved in criminal enterprises. Darcy overhears something she shouldn't and now she is in danger. Brooks is the perfect man to help because he cofounded Redemption Security!
Brooks was such a dumbass. What a horrible thing to accuse the person you love of doing! So, he was NOT my favorite hero. However, I did come to understand him as the book went on. Still, his actions were douchbaggary at its finest. The story is a blend of the mystery of what Markov is up to and the second chance romance between Brooks and Darcy. Its one thing I love about Reus' books-there is excellent balance between action/mystery/suspense and romance.
You get the camaraderie of the security team, the family drama of Brooks and his dysfunctional father, the mystery of what Markov is planning, and the rebuilding of a relationship woven throughout the story!
