The Basics:
Hannah's Hero is the sixth book of the series and picks up around where the last one left off. This time we're following Hannah, who has previously been described as a pain, and J'shel who loves her.
My Thoughts:
Hannah's Hero started out a bit rough for me, because I just did not like Hannah. Well, it's not her exactly, but it's what she's crying about when we first meet her. We already know that she appointed herself as a sort of inventory manager, but she's grating on everyone's nerves as she attempts to stop them from taking what they need. She's afraid of running out of supplies, which is understandable. She's looking for control in this crazy situation. All fine. But then...
Hannah keeps saying that she has to get back home because of reasons! She will not be staying on Not Hoth, even though she's already resonated to J'shel. Well, her reason is pretty ridiculous. Everyone has left their entire lives behind! Her reasoning is soooo superficial and I was just like...what?! But suffering is not a competition. This was extremely important to her. She has every right to be upset. After I reminded myself of these things, I was able to settle into Hannah's Hero and did enjoy her personal transformation.
However, my favorite parts of Hannah's Hero had nothing to do with Hannah and J'shel. They're cute. They're fine. But Devi stole the book for me! She has one chapter near the beginning where Hannah is asking about what the heck she's doing with the sea creatures on the shoreline and I was just like OMG I LOVE YOU DEVI! Then there's the story of Old Grandfather the massive sky-claw and it was so good! I was totally into this legend coming to life part of the book.
I did enjoy Hannah's Hero overall despite its rough start. It really expands on this world, which was my favorite part. I wanted more of that and less of the romance! I know, crazy?! The author even managed to make the fruit cave more interesting! I'm so glad Devi's book is next because I needed to know more about what she was working on and how she managed to help N'dek.
