I absolutely loved I Married a Lizardman! I’ve been on a quest for the next great alien romance series upon devouring everything by Ruby Dixon, and I think I found a winner! It all starts with Susan, a third daughter on a farming planet. Being third born essentially means she just an extra, unwanted, and unneeded. She’ll never own her own land, so she heads to a matchmaker to find her a husband. Well, they find who they claim to be her perfect match. Olix is the leader of his clan on a planet with extremely fertile soil, just waiting to be worked. Unfortunately, Olix’s species aren’t farmers and don’t see the benefits of playing in dirt. But Susan has farming in her blood and will change their minds!

I Married a Lizardman was a delight from the very beginning! I immediately liked Susan and I was cheering for her to get her man and make his planet thrive! I also really liked Olix. He has no clue about humans but he’s trying his best! All he wants is to please his new wife and keep his tribe from starving or compromising their values. It’s a delicate balancing act given how badly she wants to start a farm and how against it the entire tribe is. From there it’s an excellent story about acceptance, prejudice, capitalism, colonization, and of course, love. I was just here for all of this and and wait to read more!
