This isn't your typical war book. It also isn't one for those who are squeamish. This novel is beautiful, and tragic, heartwarming and heatbreaking all at once. At some points it's hard to get through, when you remember that this isn't a work of fiction, these are the stories from real people who lived through terrible times. These men gave everything, and still felt as though it wasn't enough. To me, this book displays what it is to be Canadian, and I've never been prouder to claim that title as my own.
