Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, strong cups of coffee - and, now, a nationwide manhunt?

Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff, expecting nothing more than a quiet ride. But now a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place. Add to that the trouble at her daughter's new school, plus a kidnapped rooster named Puff Daddy, and, well, the forecast looks anything but sunny.

But even clouds have their silver linings. This one's got Levi, Sunshine's sexy, almost-old flame, and Quincy Cooper, a fiery-hot US Marshall. With temperatures rising everywhere she turns, Del Sol's normally cool-minded sheriff is finding herself knee-deep in drama and danger.

Can Sunshine face the call of duty - and find the kidnapper who's terrorising her beloved hometown - without falling head over high heels in love . . . or worse?

A Bad Day for Sunshine is the start of new beginnings, being the first in Darynda Jones' Sunshine Vicram series. Personally, I'm hoping this series goes on for quite some time. This is a series that merges the vibes of a cozy mystery with the darker tones of a thriller, with delightful results.

When Sunshine moved away from a small town somewhere in New Mexico, she thought she'd never come back. She was wrong. Now she's returning home to be the town's new sheriff – after winning an election, she didn't participate in. Parents can't live with them, can't live without them.

Now Sunny is going to have to get up to date in the town's drama and fast. It's the only way to keep the peace and hopefully keep herself out of trouble in the process. However, a series of mysteries will suddenly become (almost) all the distractions needed.

"Great, thanks," she said, neither grateful nor thankful."

A Bad Day for Sunshine is by far the most hilarious and entertaining thriller/cozy novel I've read in a long time. It was such a delight, especially as Darynda Jones' humor leaked out through Sunny's character. Fans of the author are sure to like this new series.

There's a lot going on in this novel, and that means there's plenty to keep readers occupied. Sunshine's life is...well, chaotic is too mild of a word in this instance. Her life is all over the place, what with meddling parents, an active teenager, a dramatic town, and a sheriff's department to monitor. Not to mention her history and drama, of which there is plenty.

I loved every minute of this drama-filled thriller. I'm so very thankful that I get to head right into A Good Day for Chardonnay next (the bright side of being behind on a series!).

I'd recommend this series to anyone that needs a good laugh, though I warn you that you'll be getting more than that. The drama and tension are real, and when it all blends together, it creates a unique and memorable package. One worth reading!
