THE SERIAL KILLER ISN'T ON TRIAL.
HE'S ON THE JURY...
Now come on, you mean to say you wouldn’t want to read this either! #thatbookthathook
A great pointer about this book is that it can be read as a standalone book, but now I have met Eddie Flynn on the pages I will be going back to read his other stories and ensuring that Mr Steve Cavanagh is on my list to watch from now on.
So the premise of this book is terrifying and when you meet Joshua Kane, I was damn near petrified. I think nearly every time it was his chapter in the book, I must have looked like I was catching flies as my jaw literally just stayed dropped. This man is one of the most terrifying men I have had the unlucky pleasure to meet in the book world (Although I am not sure I would call it a pleasure per se). The lengths he goes to, to perfect his plans, the cold calculating way he lives his life, and basically, everything about him scared me. Reminded me of an episode of Luther that freaked everyone where guy hid under the bed. Joshua doesn’t do that but he is like the bogeyman in the fact no one knows him.
Eddie Flynn, is a loveable rogue, (I just love his name! If my child had been a boy he would have been Flynn, so obviously I warmed him) his past is a checkered one as a con-artist, he was married to Christine and they have a daughter. Here I could have done with some previous knowledge of their marriage and history as it’s on the rocks now and he refers to an old case causing problems, so I want to read the other books to fill in the gaps, but seriously it takes nothing away from the story not knowing. If this was the first book in the series it would feel like we would be building to the past I was ok with not knowing.
Eddie becomes Bobby Solomon lawyer, as the up and coming actor, one half of a power couple is accused of killing his newlywed wife and head of security. The case is a slam dunk, there is too much against Bobby, he’s guilty, right? Eddie doesn’t think so, after meeting Bobby he believes he is innocent, no one is that much of an actor…. are they?
Courtroom dramas are my go-to in films and books, you live and breathe the case with the defence, prosecutors, the jury, the judge and the so-called convicted criminal. I love the background the defence goes through digging up the clues, all to prove Bobby’s innocence and the blocks that are in their way. I mean I would love to have been a lawyer!
This book did not let me down in any way, the writing was fast paced and I did not feel my attention waiver in any way at all. I actually did not want it to end! Aaaaahhhh I really can’t say a lot because there will be too many spoilers, please go and read this book, you will not be wasting your time that’s for sure!
What an amazing introduction to Steve Cavanagh!
*Thank you so much to Tracy at The Book Club, Orion Crime publishers and the author Steve Cavanagh for an ARC of this book*
