Barbarian's Prize by Ruby Dixon

Barbarian's Prize (Ice Planet Barbarians, #5)

by Ruby Dixon

It’s hard being the most popular girl on the ice planet. The alien men are falling all over themselves to impress me in the hopes that I’ll take them to my furs. But they don’t know my secrets – none of them do. And they don’t realize that behind my smile, I just wish they’d go away.

I don’t want any of them. I want someone else – someone with a gorgeous blue body, big horns, and the most intense gaze ever. He’s the only one that knows the truth. Maybe with him, I can work through my fears of the past….but I’m pretty sure he wants more than just friendship.

He wants forever, and I’m not sure I can give it.

Proceed With Caution:

This book contains mentions of rape.

The Basics:

This is the fifth full book in the Ice Planet Barbarians series. Yes, it would be helpful to read the previous books since each one builds on the next, but they all focus on a different couple.

My Thoughts:

Barbarian's Prize is super good, but not my favorite of the series thus far due to its darker subject matter. Tiffany's nightmares hit a bit too close to home for me. She is terrified of being taken against her will after what went on after the abduction. She does want a family, but she feels like resonance would take away her choice and free will. Unfortunately, Tiffany is also the most popular human in the tribe and has four overbearing suitors. She just wants to be left alone! Except for maybe by Sulakh.

Barbarian's Prize focuses on Tiffany overcoming her fear of the men and sex. It comes dangerously close to healed by the power of sex territory, but doesn't quite go there. Sulakh is extremely patient with Tiffany and lets her take the lead. He never does anything she doesn't want to do and makes sure that she knows it. What comes is a very sweet and sexy relationship development.

Of course, Tiffany and Sulakh get their happily ever after, as expected. But Barbarian's Prize actually ends with Josie! We get a bit of her as she's desperate to finally resonate, but she's not excited about who her khui has selected for her. I can't wait to see how that works out!
