My Hero Academia, Vol. 20 (My Hero Academia, #20)

by Kohei Horikoshi

Midoriya inherits the superpower of the world’s greatest hero, but greatness won’t come easy.

What would the world be like if 80 percent of the population manifested superpowers called “Quirks”? Heroes and villains would be battling it out everywhere! Being a hero would mean learning to use your power, but where would you go to study? The Hero Academy of course! But what would you do if you were one of the 20 percent who were born Quirkless?

With All Might in retirement, Endeavor takes up the mantle of the number one hero, a position he’s coveted for years. But now that he has it, he’s not entirely comfortable with the responsibilities and risks that come with it—both heroes and villains are always gunning for number one. What does the future hold for Midoriya, and what do his dreams about One For All mean?

Um. Wow. This volume went from the fun and more casual plot that I had been expecting (having seen it started in the last volume) and then just completely jumped ahead to a seriously intense plot. And there wasn't even that much warning, all things considered.
I'm honestly not sure how to feel about what just happened. It could be real, or it could be another classic fake out. To be honest, I think I'd end up being okay with either, though obviously if it's real it'll probably have more of a lasting impact on the series. And a few characters in particular, as well.
So, I know that this volume probably won't be in the next season of MHA (at least, I'm hoping they don't rush through the material too quickly - I do NOT want to see this series hit filler status), but I legit can't wait to see this fight in a more animated sense.
