Chocolate is a girl's best friend.

The Swiss Mishap by Amey Zeigler is a book for people that love to speak French, eat chocolate, and of course, adore pets. We follow Elaine through her four-month internship at Alpine Foods from the end of August to the end of November.

Elaine Peterson

Elaine, Lainey, Peterson is a recent college graduate who received a four-month internship at Alpine Foods working in their Chocolate department. At least that is what she thought. Instead, Lainey is working in the Pet Care department, which is a big problem. She is deathly afraid of dogs but, Lainey loves chocolate. Throughout her internship, Lainey develops feelings for her boss, which is against the rules. So, now she thinks that maybe she isn't cut out to work for Alpine.

Likes and Dislikes

My likes for Lainey are

  • She's a big chocolate lover.

  • Lainey evolved throughout the novel and changing the goal that she has had since she was little.

  • She is trusting Yves enough with her secret.

My only dislike for Lainey is that she should have told Yves how she felt, and then they could have worked something out.

Yves Claremont

Yves Claremont is making headway in Alpine Foods not only to bring his last name into good graces again but because he wants to succeed. He decided to give Lainey an internship within his department because he thought that she would do well within his department. One big problem though is he didn't expect to spend a lot of time with her. He likes to keep his personal and business life separate but with Lainey around that line is blurred.

Likes and Dislikes

My likes for Yves are

  • Despite being wealthy, he doesn't care about those things.

  • Keeps his personal and business lives separate and doesn't like to intermingle those two.

  • Tries in his way to woo Lainey.

The only thing I  dislike about Yves is that once he figured out that he likes Lainey more than as a coworker that he should have told her.

Four Stars

The Swiss Mishap by Amey Zeigler is a four-star rating. It was fantastic, but I was a bit confused by some of the French sayings. Besides that, it was an excellent read. Ms. Ziegler does a tremendous job of making me think while I was reading that I was in Switzerland.
