Victories Greater Than Death by Charlie Jane Anders

Victories Greater Than Death (Unstoppable, #1)

by Charlie Jane Anders

From internationally bestselling author Charlie Jane Anders (All the Birds in the Sky) comes Victories Greater Than Death, first in the thrilling adventure Unstoppable series, set against an intergalactic war―Anders’s long-awaited YA debut.

THE UNIVERSE IS CALLING―and time is running out.

Tina has always known her destiny is outside the norm―after all, she is the human clone of the most brilliant alien commander in all the galaxies (even if the rest of the world is still deciding whether aliens exist). But she is tired of waiting for her life to begin.

And then it does―and maybe Tina should have been more prepared. At least she has a crew around her that she can trust―and her best friend at her side. Now, they just have to save the world.

Space Opera has always been a difficult genre for me to tackle. It all relies on the reader to visualize different species and machines that have never before been seen and I'm just not that good at it. The way Anders structured Victories Greater Than Death, with Tina being "human" and having a wikipedia brain, made easing into this space adventure easy and enjoyable. Never once did I feel overwhelmed or confused by the world that had been created. Most of all, Anders focused on relationships, the ethics of colonization and politics — things that any decent person can understand, relate to and debate with others. I enjoyed Victories Greater Than Death and eagerly await the next book in the series.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
