Star Wars: Doctor Aphra Vol. 6

As the title sort of indicates, Doctor Aphra Vol. 7: A Rogue's End is the end of Doctor Aphra's series. Well, this series that is. She already has a new series that is actively updating, and it is absolutely worth checking out.

Doctor Aphra is not a character known for her altruistic nature. No, instead she's better known for all of her scheming. That, and the number of backs that she has stabbed in order to get where she is. You know, not that she's had much success in actually getting what she's wanted.

Now, Aphra has some hard decisions to make. She's hurt a lot of people over the course of her life, and she has a rare opportunity to help make it right. But it will cost her. Is that something that Doctor Chelli Aphra is willing to do?

As far as endings go, Doctor Aphra Vol. 7: A Rogue's End is a solid one. I hated the idea of saying goodbye to Aphra (again, not actually a goodbye, she has a new series), so I kind of put this off for a bit.

All of that being said, I'm pretty happy with the events that occurred within this volume. I won't say that it is a redemption plot arc. That would arguably be going just a touch too far. But it is about as close as one can expect, for somebody like Aphra.

It has a lot of action, and several memorable moments. All while sticking true to Doctor Aphra's character, and the habits that she just can't seem to break (namely, coming up with grand plans that can't possibly work as expected).

The irony in this volume cannot be ignored. Aphra was, for a brief shining moment, safe. She would have probably stayed safe too, had she actually kept her head down and stayed out of trouble. Something she is clearly not capable of. As such, certain events came full circle, forcing some difficult decisions onto Aphra's lap.

It was fascinating to see her thought process, as well as what decisions she would ultimately go with. I won't say much about the finale itself, because I don't want to spoil it, but I will say that overall it was a nice touch. Lots of surprises, and even more catharsis. That sort of thing. Which is actually perfect, for a series conclusion.

Thankfully, as mentioned above, Doctor Aphra is back. This time around, Alyssa Wong is at the helm, and so far I've loved all of the risks taken for that story. So be sure to check it out, if you're even remotely tempted.
