Midnight in Death by J.D. Robb is a short novella of the In Death series. It was a quick and fast-paced book to read, so I’ll try to keep the review short and sweet.
The novella picks up right after Eve, and her team dealt with the Santa Claus killer. Poor Peabody is still recovering from what happened to her in the previous book, and Eve doesn’t want to involve her in a new case just yet. Three years ago, Eve and several others helped put away a crazy serial killer. Unfortunately, that serial killer has escaped prison and now has a hit list on everyone that put him away, including Eve and Dr. Mira. Eve knew the serial killer’s every move back in the day, but now he’s smarter and more resilient. He’s able to get past all of Eve’s protections for everyone on the hit list, so she’s determined to find him. Roarke is along the way to help her, and so is the rest of Eve’s team. Be prepared for a crazy ride in this novella. This serial killer is insane. I think he may be one of my top villains to despise in the series so far.
If you wanted to read a quick Romantic Suspense/Mystery novella, I would recommend this book. You don’t have to read the earlier books to read it, but I always recommend reading in order. You’ll miss out on the character development that J.D. Robb does for each character in the series. She does a fantastic job in each of her books in the series with her characters and addicting storylines.
Overall, this novella received 4-stars and was a great short story for the In Death series.
