My Review:

I wasn't sure how I would like this book since I never read a mermaid book before but it turned out to be a really interesting story with some great characters and I really had a hard time putting this book down.

The main character is Meela and she is going to be part of a Massacre that kills mermaids because in this world mermaids are evil creatures that are killing people because they do not want to share the sea life. The Mermaid king is evil and greedy, Eriana Kwai is a dying village that for some reason the king and his mermaids seem to target them. They use to send boys to kill the mermaids but they realized the mermaids tend to put them under a spell and they always lose. So this time they are sending a group of teenage girls to fight the mermaids. The characters in this book are badass and I loved the MC Meela, the story is told in her POV,  she was really a strong girl with a mind of her own but she is a bit hesitant about killing. The story take place a lot on the boat that they are sent out on to kill the mermaids and the girls get a bit divided and some a bit crazy. Lysi is a Mermaid and has formed a strong connection with Meela. I loved how the twists and turn in this story really kept me guessing about what was going to happen next. This story does hit a bit of a slow stop in the middle and has a lord of the flies type of feel to it. I think Tiana Warner did a great job telling this unique story and creating characters that stay with you long after you finish the book.

Ice Massacre has a lot of action, unexpected romance and a bunch of twists and turns that kept me reading long into the night and wanting more when I was finished. The end is a bit of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. This is a great start to what I hope to be a long series.

recommend: YA and Adults will enjoy this read. It's a different take on mermaids and a very interesting story.
