Princess gets her own Mr September.

I nearly didn’t read Unforgettable You. Unfortunately, I’d put on my Judgey McJudgement hat after hearing that Ms Bell wrote “clean” books. Look I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with reading “clean” books, but for me I like to see the connection between the characters and sexy times is just one of those connections (wink, wink). Another case where I freely admit I was WRONG!! Ms Heatherly Bell (such a sweet and innocent sounding name) can write smutty, smut with the best of them. There were showers, floors, walls, lakes and even a bed…of a truck, used for their shenanigans. If this is clean…I’ve been mislead. Don’t get me wrong, this is not hard core smut, this is just real. He gets excitable…she gets excitable…they get excitable…together.

Diana is visiting her Grandmother who lives in Starlight Hill, a little town she spent her summer holidays in as a kid. Diana’s mother had been concerned that her mother needed to be moved into an aged care facility. Not liking the idea at all Diana visits to see if the situation is as dire as thought. She’s also on the run…from her life. Diana’s getting over the fact that her ex, who she’d been with for 6 years, is getting married to someone he’d known for six months. She’s also a writer, unpublished, and plenty of rejection slips to prove it. This little break was her way to get things back on track. Diana’s first night in town makes her a YouTube sensation.

Scott is a fire fighter with a history in the army. He’s a hero, who doesn’t like to be called it, and a man with demons. He wants to save the world by helping out his fellow man and fighting fires. If his life is at risk, he’s not really concerned. Better him than the man with a wife and kids or the new recruit just starting out. His actions are his ways to make up for things he did in his younger years and a time he wasn’t there for a good mate. One night on the job he saves a damsel… in a slinky nightie.

Diana and Scott realise that they know each other already. Unfortunately while a little incident from back in the day leaves Diana’s not too impressed to see Scott, Scott is quite happy to see Diana. With a little sweet talking and some matchmaking friends, Diana forgives Scott and they end up spending time together. Things heat up between them, but with their issues they decide it will be a ‘friends with benefits’ hookup.

I ended up enjoying Unforgettable You with the quirky characters and gossipy town, but it certainly took me awhile to warm up to it. A lot of old-fashioned and narrow minded people making judgements, and one of the worst culprits…Diana. She was prudish and old-fashioned and acted like an 80 year old instead of someone under 30. It was almost like a button was pushed at the halfway mark and we went from a clean and sweet read, to swearing, smut and skinny dipping. Maybe it was me getting used to the town, or the town getting used to Diana, but things just flowed better in the second half of the book.

This was the first book I’ve read in the series and I’m sure it would have been a different experience if I’d read the other books before this one. Not sure I’d go back to the beginning but I’d definitely be interested if the author shared a story about Mandy and Ty (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).

I received an Advanced Reading Copy of Unforgettable You from the author for an honest review.
