I don't typically enjoy books told in the first person, as it oddly keeps me from fully immersing myself in the character and world. However, the world built in Shadow and Bone is a fascinating one, with cultural pieces of our world incorporated into it, helping to connect readers more with Alina and the setting. This is a quick read, especially as it's aimed at teenagers/young adults, but very enjoyable overall.
