Worth the Fall by Claudia Connor

Worth the Fall (McKinney Brothers, #1)

by Claudia Connor

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Prepare to be swept away by a talented debut author with a passionate, powerful story to tell.

They meet on a beach. . . . Abby Davis isn’t wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when she’s busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isn’t looking for fun—he’s a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions . . . and fallen brothers.

They only have a week. . . . Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Matt’s been sidelined by a combat injury, and haunted by the best friend he lost and the promise he made: to remain a SEAL—focused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what he’s always wanted: a family.

But a week is all it takes. . . . Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.

This book will be on my "To read again" shelf. No question.

I have extremely warm and fuzzy feelings in regard to this book and I'm so excited that this is Ms. Connor's first book and there are MORE to come!  I saved this book and read it on my vacation and I'm so glad I did.  I laughed, sighed, swooned and cried throughout this book, it had a little bit of everything!

This book took place in my backyard :) Raleigh is my home and I'm about 1 and 1/2 hours from the coast of NC.  So, I had the locations of this book in my brain.
I loved the build up of the relationship.

Abby has 4 kids and is pregnant and can you imagine a guy being interested in you?  How the heck would dating work?  I felt like Ms. Connor was realistic in the complexities of dating while pregnant and being a single parent.  Matt and Abby have a very strong connection immediately and yet I enjoyed the slow burn of their relationship.  Matt, being a NAVY Seal, his life is somewhere else and he has to go when he gets the call to go.  Abby has a life with her children in Raleigh and their lives just don't seem to match up at the time that they meet at the beach.
Ahhhh beach romance.

I always wanted to have one of those but then reality rears it's ugly head and what happens when vacation is over?  Matt and Abby do their best to make a good go of it.  Of course there are some obstacles that they have to overcome, emotional, professional, and personal.  For me, it was worth it.  I thoroughly enjoyed this book!  I loved Matt, he was a big, burly guy who fell for Abby when she was pregnant and fell for her children too.
She turned to face him.  He was so close.  Nothing between them but the warm breeze.  His sunglasses hung around his neck, revealing chocolate- brown eyes.  Beyond beautiful, deep and rich, fringed with black lashes.  A strong man with soft eyes,  Eyes that could tale a girl into anything.

Can we talk about the kids?

Yes, there are four and they are adorable, especially Gracie and Jack. (the little girl speak is precious)  I loved how gentle Matt was with Abby and the children.  It made me feel all gooey and melty.
"Hi, Ladybug.  Having fun?"

She nodded, "I'm dancing.  Did you see me?  I spinned awound eighteen twenty times.

"Eighteen twenty, huh?  That's a lot, and I did see you."

Gracie threw her arms around his neck in a spontaneous hug that painfully melted his heart.

A man who will toss a football with a young boy and will cuddle a little girl?  Guh.  This book and Ms. Connor's writing style reminded me a bit of Kristen Ashley, in that, personal relationships are explored, with family and friends and the story is told in detail. You really get the WHOLE story.  I really like Ms.Connor's writing style.

As I write my review, I'm going through my notes and it's all I can do to not do a re read RIGHT NOW.  I cannot wait for the next book in the series, WORTH THE RISK which, looks like we will be getting that one in January 2015.  Plenty of time for numerous re reads!!!
(Please forgive me, I feel kind of discombobulated while writing this review.  It's kind of hard for me to explain how much I loved this book.)
