Written in descriptive and graceful French, Colette gives us a touching coming-of-age story set on the magnificent coast of Brittany, near Cancale (which is famous for oysters...hmm, aphrodisiac indeed). With themes of adolescent sexuality and featuring a cougar for added effect, this novel was considered rather risqué in the nineteen-twenties.
