J.E Parker is a "new to me" author. I set myself a little challenge this year to read more "new" or "new to me" authors, so this one sounded like a good contender in that regard. Often trying a new author can end up being a crapshoot, but luck was on my side. This book was SO good. I have read none of the other books in this series (I plan to) and I wasn't completely lost. However, it got a wee bit confusing at times because there were a plethora of secondary characters to keep track of. Since so many of them are couples, family, and friends from the previous books in this series, I would recommend for the best reading experience they should be read in order. But as I said, you can happily read this one as a standalone without too much confusion.
One highlight of this book was the writing itself. It was an excellently written book. It was a relatively long book, but the pace was perfect. The plot was engaging. Heartbreaking. Hilarious (good lord Grandmama is a HOOT). The second half of the book also has a little thread of mystery woven through it. This was super low angst and insta love type of read. There wasn't any OW or OM drama. Kyle broke my heart, but he was SO sweet. Sexy. Alpha. I loved him. He was also celibate the entire three years he was waiting for the heroine to graduate (so bonus). Carissa was also sweet. Funny. Feisty. Had a huge heart. Alas, she was also a virgin (groan), but it at least made sense in this case since she was 20 when her and Kyle first meet, and her father is crazy overprotective. Still...virgins...so sick of them! (lol) The sex scenes were hot. It had a fantastic cast of secondary characters. I adored the comradery and the love this vast group of people had for each other. Last, it was all wrapped up in a super sweet ending.
So yea, not much left to say...I loved it.
