Excellent writing, decent story, bad treatment of minorities. For some reason my copy is marked as a 'thriller'; I wouldn't label it as such. The pace stems mainly from the story being very short and it containing mainly dialogue.

Despite the heavy subject matter, Of Mice and Men didn't elicit much of an emotional response from me. Call me jaded, but it is hardly surprising that it doesn't end well for certain characters. I am especially annoyed by the fact that 'Curly's wife' didn't even deserve a name of her own.
