Join the legion of fans who skyrocketed this six-book series to the top of the charts. Start here, with the first book that kicked off the international #1 bestselling Vampire Academy series.

Love and loyalty run deeper than blood. St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

I enjoyed this book very much, and as any other book it has normal flaws like some typos, the academy cliché, etc. But despite this, it surprised me being a vampire book with a general interesting plot. The reason why it doesn't have four stars is because of my mild dislike for Rose. Badass chick, great! Forbidden Romance, cool! Witty and not willing to put up with other's crap, awesome! Constantly saying her body is oh so hot and sabotaging her friend's relationship? That wasn't okay.
It's okay that a character makes mistakes. Maybe that's why this author was trying to attempt? But there are ways to pull it off without the reader ending up disliking the MC. It would've been better if Rose had actually had to apologize for it, to Lissa. Instead of her just forgetting about it, because... If I were Lissa... Man, I would be so pissed!

I recommend it, though. Maybe I'll see some character development in the other books so I'm crossing my fingers =D
