I was fortunate enough to receive a complimentary copy from the author, Tanya Holmes, and boy—it did not disappoint! The beginning of the story packs such a huge punch that I had to take a break after the first chapter, just to catch my breath—though let’s be honest, I had a difficult time putting it down at all.

One of my favorite aspects of this novel is that it is written from both Trace’s and Shannon’s POV; the transitions are so fluid and natural that you feel as if you are watching a movie, rather than actually reading a story. The sexual tension between the two is palpable throughout, beginning at the moment they first lock eyes (after Trace returns home from a 12-year stint in jail), but it’s not the cheesy, in-your-face “I want you,” “I need you,” “Take me now” kind of dialogue. As their relationship progresses, it allows for those feelings and conversations to grow, and it feels like a natural progression—particularly when you take into account that they grew up together and were best friends all through childhood. They both loved the other all their lives, but they always kept their feelings a secret.

Not only is this novel a beautifully written love story, it also has a bit of mystery; long-hidden family secrets; familial tension; grief; humor; and just the right amount of steam. I can honestly say Tanya is a new favorite, and I will be anxiously awaiting the sequel. This is by far one of the best Contemporary Romance novels I have ever read, and I most definitely will be recommending it to my friends and family!

5/5 stars...and if I could, I would give it 6!
