I’m about one volume behind on the Champions, but I decided to jump ahead and start reading the new series anyway. I’m doing the same thing for Ms. Marvel and Miles Morales series, so why not? And it’s easier to stay caught up rather than constantly trying to catch up.
I absolutely adore the inclusion of so many new characters. The Champions is basically a collection of all of the younger super heroes in Marvel, and that’s okay. At least they’re trying to do their own thing and be heroes in their own way.
There are now enough new teammates that they can actually run three successful teams at once. Which is insane when you think about it (the amount of work and coordination, that is). I don’t know if this will stay a constant for the series, or if it’ll end up fluctuating. It might end up one of those things where we only see certain characters based on the situation at hand. I guess we’ll see.
On the main roster (as I’m going to call it) is Ms. Marvel (the new team leader), Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Sam Alexander (ex-Nova, not sure how that’s going to work out), Brawn, Viv Vision, Ironheart, Snowguard, and Wasp. Those are just the characters listed on the first page, along with the description of the series. But there are other characters in the issue as well; Locust, Falcon (Joaquin Torres), Bombshell, Pinpoint, Power Man (Victor Alvarez), and Patriot (Rayshaun Lucas). I’m assuming that these later characters will be the ones rotating in and out, but I don’t really know that for sure.
