Secrets in the silence...

Look, I know love isn’t easy at the best of times. What if the person you are starting to have feelings for doesn’t talk? Do you trust the sexual tension? Can you believe what you think you see in their eyes? Is it better to trust in the silence or look for your own answers? In Inarticulate there is more than one mountain to climb to reach the top. How can you trust your heart to stay safe when you don’t trust the person you are giving it to?

I struggled with this story, to be honest. For the first 25%, I wasn’t convinced that I could get past the lack of communication. I started to question whether it was going to be a book about setting aside your normal reservations and morals to “get it on” with a sexy and mysterious guy. So, I stopped. Then, I tried again…and broke all the book reading rules.

See, I needed answers and to know that the journey was going to be worth it. Don’t hate me…but I skipped to the 75% mark and read till the end. Then, I was still questioning stuff, so I went back to the 50% mark and read that part. Of course, you guessed it, I went back to the 25% mark and read from there. So in essence, I pretty much read the book back to front. Weird, I know, but in the end, it worked for me. All the puzzle pieces got laid...just in my way.

So, I read the whole book (in my own special way) and liked it. Would I have liked it more if I’d read it like a good little girl? Hmmm, not sure. Each quarter had its own special bit to offer and I was able to still get the whole package. This is all because I hate surprises and I’m very impatient. I probably wouldn’t recommend reading it this way, but like I said it worked for me.

I don’t want to go too much into the storyline as I don’t want to give anything away. I will say that it made me question what I would do in similar circumstances. Would I be as tolerant and patient when dealing with someone frustrated by their limitations? Can I see myself forgiving someone who hurt me by making decisions purely to protect themselves? Very, very tricky.

The author is probably going to kill me for writing such a crazy review. I decided to be straightforward and admit that I broke the rules. BUT…it worked for me and I still managed to finish the book with a smile on my face.
