Match Made in Texas (Deep in the Heart of Texas)

by Katie Lane

Dusty Hicks is a sexy lawman who has moved from Houston after a messy divorce from his socialite wife who used her family's clout to get sole custody of their only daughter. Filled with rage over the injustice, Dusty won't be happy until he has custody.

Brianne Cates is the youngest and only daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Texas. Bri is seen as the sweet and fragile baby sister who needs to be protected.

Dusty doesn't have time for a pampered woman who reminds him of his ex-wife. And Bri doesn't want anything to do with a man twice as overbearing and macho as her brothers. But when the proprietress of Miss Hattie's Henhouse, Minnie Ladue, gets involved, the two will be thrown together and forced to look deeper. Bri will discover a kindhearted man who treats her as a woman not a princess. And Dusty will find a strong woman who knows how to handle his temper and soften his rough edges and helps him realize that it isn't about who wins or loses the custody battle as long as his daughter is happy.

Oh my goodness! This book was crazy! There were so many things going on from a fallen TV evangelist who drives a Cadillac and looks like Elvis Presley, to bed-and-breakfast, formerly a real “henhouse,” run by three middle-aged flamboyant women, and a Mexican drug lord who escaped from prison and has come back to exact his revenge. And if that wasn’t awesome enough, the book starts off with a car chase followed by two attempts of resisting arrest and pepper spraying the mirrored sunglasses clad sheriff!

There ain’t nothing sexier than a man with mirrored shades and I swooned every time the sheriff was wearing them! Dusty is a hard man and rightly so. His ex-wife is a total bitch and used her father’s money and influence to get full custody of their young daughter. Dusty already has enough problems without another spoiled, rich girl crashing into his life, literally.

Brianne is trying to escape her stalker ex-boyfriend while hiding her exploits from her family’s untarnished image of her. If they only knew. Trying to avoid a scandal from a revealing picture her ex posted on the internet, Brianne’s brothers think it’s best for her to lay low at the “henhouse” until they can get things straightened out. Brianne is tired of her brothers pushing her around and resents hiding but it’s not all bad if she gets to spend more time with the grumpy sheriff, who is slowly melting towards Brianne.

There isn’t anything I didn’t love about this book. This is my first read from Katie Lane and she definitely has a new fan in me! I’m looking forward to reading all the books in the series! This is an amazingly heart-felt story that had me laughing out loud too many times to count.
