I really enjoyed this dark and twisted YA. Cosette is severely depressed. Her brother, who she was clearly close to, died in a tragic car accident. Her father left her and her mom after that and that parent-child relationship is epically fucked up. Her mom is doing her best, but she's clearly not seeing how bad her daughter is hurting, especially as she is getting bullied at school.

And yet, this is nothing like I expected. This isn't the story that glorifies or romanticizes suicide. Instead, it's the other way someone hurting this bad could go. It's a twisted mess. It somehow manages to be YA and really feel like teens, but the themes are very mature. I don't want to say too much about the plot, because lots of unexpected things happen and it ends with a HUGE twist.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it, but I'm glad I gave it a try and I'm very much looking forward to listening to the rest of the series. The narration, by Michelle Sparks, was really enjoyable and I will not hesitate to listen to other books she narrates.
