His Cowboy Heart by Jennifer Ryan

His Cowboy Heart (Montana Men, #7)

by Jennifer Ryan

Bound by honor and by love...That's a Montana Man Ford Kendrick has often dreamed of the day that Jamie Keller would come home to Montana. After high school, she needed to leave-and he, duty-bound to rescue his family's ranch, pushed her to go. The Army made Jamie a hero, but Ford still sees the gorgeous, loving woman who lit up his whole world. Every day since she left, Jamie has longed for Ford. One glimpse confirms it: the sexy, dangerous-looking cowboy left a hole in her heart that nothing else can fill. Yet the battle scars she bears-inside and out-won't let her trust anyone enough to get close. Ford wants to bring Jamie back to the life they dreamed of building. But locked somewhere in her memories is a dark truth that threatens her safety. It's a battle Ford won't let her fight alone, not when he's determined to keep her by his side, now and always...

Coffee Dates with His Cowboy Heart

  • First Date: We are introduced to Jamie Keller who has been discharged from the Army due to injuries. She is suffering from PTSD after an IED attack overseas. She has some memory loss regarding the assault and is in therapy. The military is awaiting her formal statement before closing their report on the attack. She is not in a good way, sleeps with her gun and has had some episodes that have her waking up firing. Eep! We learn about Jamie's life in Montana and her reasons for leaving and joining the Army. I quickly found myself emotionally connected. Ford Kendrick was her sweetheart before leaving. With the ranch in trouble, and Jamie's situation he pushed her to go by breaking her heart. A town parade and an encounter at a local eatery have Ford vying for a second chance, but Jamie has a lot of mending to do.

  • Second Date: Yikes, this second date was downright dangerous! Ryan doesn't make it easy for Ford, and I was all in. Ford is such a sweetie!  He is one of the good guys. I like a man who knows when he is wrong, protects those he cares about and is willing to go slow. Ryan impressed me with her knowledge of PTSD and Jamie's story will touch your heart. From therapists to Ford's tenderness I quickly fell for this couple and was eager for an HEA. The author wove in a suspense angle while touching on something that happens during war,  perhaps more often than we would like to think.

  • Third Date: I enjoyed seeing this couple begin to trust and watching Jamie slowly regain control of her life. Her memories are beginning to come back and with them setbacks. Her comrade appears, and it pushes her memories to the surface. This causes conflict and drives the suspense to a head. Something happened that threatens the couple's chance at happiness and had me anxious. I appreciated the mature way Ryan had her characters handle it. A character I love from the series is in trouble and had me nervous. This third date put me through the ringer emotionally. One minute I was laughing and the next near tears. Grab some truffles!
