Though this is book one of a series, it ended in such a way to give hope for the future and wasn't a cliff-hanger in the way some are.

The author did a great job weaving the stories from Collin's perspective when he was 14 and Katie was 4 and the "present", 14 years later. She revealed just the right amount at just the right time.

I loved the insights into the English/Scottish relations at the end of the Jacobite rebellion and loved the vows that were exchanged. The story was tender and exciting and heartfelt. I can't wait to read the rest of Katie and Collin's story.
