A Night in Grosvenor Square:

A MATCH FOR PRINCESS POMPOUS by Sarah M. Eden – 4.5 stars

I really loved Adelaide. It was all kinds of fun reading about her matchmaking and manipulation and the way she worked so hard not just to make a match that would satisfy the parents. The mess that Odette got herself into and the way she was extricated was great.

CONFECTIONS AND PRETENSE by Annette Lyon – 3.5 stars

I really enjoyed Anne and reading about her making the ices for Gunter’s Tea Shop. I’ve read many other stories from this period that talk about people going there, but never went into the details of what it might have been like in the way this story did.

I also liked the fact that Anne and Davis are older than the usual characters from stories written about this era.

This story had violence in it, and maybe more detail than should have been there (in my opinion!). It was pretty yucky what happened. Because the rating is about what I like, if the attack had not been described in as much detail, I would have given this story a higher rating. That said, do remember that I am a wimp where this kind of thing is concerned – the violence probably wasn’t more than you would find in a PG or PG-13 movie.

LITTLE LONDON by Heather B. Moore – 4 stars

I really enjoyed Ellen and how sweet and idealistic she was. The initial meeting was dreamy and oh so sweet.

What I didn’t like about this book was Ellen’s mom. I know it is normal for the mean parent, but thought it was over-the-top to have her lock her in her room as she did, and for Ellen’s dad to almost treat it as if it was no big deal.
