Uh … WOW! What can I say about Combust, I absolutely loved every bit of this book, it has easily been added to my favorites for this year! It was such a different mix of characters, but it worked out perfectly. Let’s dive right in.

Dylan, a songwriter-singer that prefers to stay in the limelight, her world was altered when she found her boyfriend in bed with someone else. Trying to deal with the heartbreak, she needs to flee. But it’s not as easy as she’d hope it would be, tied to a contract with her recording label, it’s not as simple as leaving her heartache behind. Not only is she tied to this contract to finish an album, but her music partner is none other than her stupid, now ex-boyfriend, Jett. Tired of always being second best, she just needs to get away.

And that’s where Grady comes in, doing a solid for his friend, he opens his house to Dylan. He’s the perfect guy for a rebound, but the more she gets to know Grady, the attraction grows. Grady not only has visible scars but invisible ones as well. Dealing with survivor’s guilt and not exactly wanting to be tied down to anyone. He has so many things to work out on his own. It’s not long after a certain visitor changes their roommate roles, navigating through their attraction towards each other, will they make it out of the fire alive?

I love that this isn’t a typical co-ed roommate story.Dylan and Grady are both dealing with a few personal things and have a bit to overcome. Besides Dylan dealing with her ever persistent ex, her sexy as sin roommate, she has a loathing towards firefighters and devoted to a mom who is barely present. While Grady, can’t get past losing a fellow firefighter and surviving the day. That loss also left a mother to raise a son on her own. It was too much for Grady and that’s why he has completely shut down the idea of ever being in a committed relationship. Temporary is all he needs.

The one thing that neither one of them planned on was the possibility that they’d be perfect for each other. They challenge each other to move past their hurt and overcome the barriers that are keeping them back. I loved witnessing the complete peace that they brought each other and how quickly they were falling for each other. You’ll be wondering how there will be a happy ending with this. Or maybe by the time they realize it, it’ll be too late.

An absolutely beautiful story that will have you hooked page after page. Definitely, one of my new favorite series and will be looking forward to the next book, Pilot.
