Zoe doesn't like being told what to do. When her brother, Jack, tells her she shouldn't even consider Grant as boyfriend material, she sets out to prove him wrong. Grant was immediately roped into Zoe's antics, which he totally didn't mind. Both of these characters were in for more than what they bargained for.

"Grant, do you have a girlfriend who would mind if you kissed me to piss off my brother?"
In answer, he leaned down and pressed his mouth against mine. Bam. Instant heat.

Zoe started off as a spunky, sarcastic and peculiar character. Grant was in for a while ride with this girl. Her antics had me laughing and giggling through the majority of the story. Despite liking Zoe, I had moments when I wouldn't like her much. She would turn into a little bit controlling and jealous person when it came to Grant. I understand why, but at the same time, she would go about it the wrong way. I wish she had stayed how she started off. It would have made the story all the more entertaining.

Grant was a character that I immediately gravitated towards to despite his cocky personality. At times, I would get frustrated by him and his indecision, but most of the time I just wanted to hug him and never let go. Being able to read from Grant's point of view made the story so much better, in my opinion.

Some girl should write a guide deciphering all the things guys say.

Zoe's and Grant's relationship was actually fun. I was enjoying it a lot, especially with all the trouble they would get into. There were very few moments when I doubted Grant, mostly because of the title of this book. I have to say that "the bet" wasn't that big of a deal as the title and synopsis make it out to be. It wasn't even a focus in the story as it should have been. I mean, I'm glad it wasn't, but it is misleading. Plus, Zoe's and Grant's kisses are probably the steamiest I've read in a YA novel!

I was happy that their difference in class didn't play a role in their relationship. Grant comes from money, whereas Zoe doesn't. When I read this early on, I was dreading what was to come. Thankfully, the author didn't place this as the twist of the story, which I was so grateful for! What was unfortunate was that I felt like along the way the story lost its momentum. Regardless of this, I was able to enjoy the story in its entirety.

I loved that this story involved a strong sibling relationship between Zoe and Jack—it shows the bad and it shows the good. Their relationship was fun to read about. It also involved a strong friendship with Zoe and Delia. These two girls were very tight and always there for one another, which I totally loved!

Overall, The Boyfriend Bet is a light, cute story that shows the joys and the conflicts of dating in high school.
