A Demon's Witch by Tena StetlerI received a complimentary copy courtesy of The Romance Reviews in exchange for an honest review. When you hear the word demon, the one word that is likely to come to mind is evil. So why would anyone want to be romantically involved with one? I am sure that's the question Angelique's friends, family and acquaintances were asking when they discovered that she was acquainted with the dashing and debonair owner of the Wyked Hair Salon. They all tried to warn her that he was deadly and therefore off limits. Unfortunately, the more they warned her, the more she wanted to be with him. I guess it's true when they say that the forbidden fruit is the sweetest. Will she heed the warnings or will listen to the desires of her heart? Angelique is a powerful witch. She is determined to prove to everyone, especially her brother, that she could take care of herself. She relocated to Washington, DC where she started a business with her best friend. In the process of promoting her business, she met Bruce. It was evident from their first encounter that there was an intense connection between them. A connection that they could not control. However, they would be faced with obstacles. One of these obstacles is her brother, Tristian, who was Bruce's right-hand man. In addition to this, it was against the rules of the paranormal realm for a witch and a demon to be together. Bruce is a 600-year-old demon. He is the current Overlord of the western hemisphere. He is responsible for monitoring the activity of the paranormal beings living in his territory. In essence, he ensured that they did not reveal their identity to mortals. He was considered to be a ladies man, who was not capable of settling down. As such when showed interest in Angelique, he was warned against getting involved with her. However, when he discovered that she was his mate, he was not going to allow anything or anyone to prevent them from being together. What I enjoyed about this story was its uniqueness. Readers are introduced to a world where a variety of paranormal beings co-exists among the human population. They have normal jobs and regular lives, making it easy for them to blend into the mortal world. In addition, their Overlord is a great hairstylist. The characters were very dynamic. They demonstrated growth throughout the story. Angelique is stubborn and strong willed. However, for someone who was determined to prove that she could take care of herself, her behaviour was a bit immature. Bruce likes to be in control and he has a protective nature. It is his belief that he was responsible for his mate's protection at all times. However, this did not go down well with Angelique. I liked that they were able to come to a compromise which proved beneficial to them in the end. The writing was good, but the way in which the story was handled was disappointing. The story focused mainly on the romance between Angelique and Bruce. It was stated that it was against the rules for a witch and a demon to mate. However, there was no evidence of this being addressed. It was evident that there was an enemy in the midst. This enemy was intent on getting revenge on Bruce and Tristian which would place Angelique in the middle. However, the attention given to this aspect of the story was minuscule. It was if the author placed it there as an afterthought. I personally believe that this aspect could have been better dealt with. This story is for mature audiences as the situations were adult in nature. It was not too violent, but the love scenes leaned more to the steamy side. To conclude, this was an average read for me. However, I would still recommend it to lovers of paranormal romance. Review originally posted athttp://www.theromancereviews.com/view...
