After the way I felt about THESE BROKEN STARS, I was so nervous to read THIS SHATTERED WORLD. I mean, there was NO WAY that book two could live up to book one ... right? It was inevitable that book two would be a let down. I had this pretty little book in my possession for months (because I won a giveaway) before I finally FINALLY picked it up. I was so nervous I could vomit. I shouldn't have been worried. At all.

THIS SHATTERED WORLD takes place on a different planet with a different couple, than THESE BROKEN STARS. But that doesn't make them any less. While I will tell you that they eventually couple up, I will not tell you when or how it happens. Just that it is organic, and believable. They do not fall in love at first sight. Lee and Flynn really shouldn't have ever met, but now that they have they could change not only their world, but a good portion of the universe. Circumstances of their own making, and those beyond their control, have thrown them into the middle of a battle they were not even aware of. But they do have allies!

I am pretty sure Spooner and Kaufman are magicians. They create a world so real, so feral, and so gut-wrenching, that you can't help but get sucked in. It is beautiful and terrible and wonderful and terrifying and so many other adjectives that if I went on I'd never be able to stop. Your heart will just break for these characters and their struggles. And when they finally FINALLY realize they are not alone in this world you nearly sob with relief.

It has been nearly a month since I read this story, and several books later, it is still with me. It sticks not just to your heart, but to your soul. I would say that I will not be nervous for book three, but that would be a big fat lie. But I will certainly not wait so long if I am again lucky enough to get an advanced copy.
