52 Reasons to Hate My Father

by Jessica Brody

Being America's favorite heiress is a dirty job . . . but someone's gotta do it.

Lexington Larrabee has never had to work a day in her lifle. After all, she's the heiress to the multibillion-dollar Larrabee Media empire. And heiresses are not supposed to work. But then again, they're not supposed to crash brand-new Mercedes convertibles into convenience stores on Sunset Boulevard either.

Which is why, on Lexi's eighteenth birthday, her ever-absent tycoon father decides to take a more proactive approach to her wayward life. Every week for the next year, she will have to take on a different low-wage job if she ever wants to receive her beloved trust fund. But if there's anything worse than working as a maid, a dishwasher, and a fast-food restaurant employee, it's dealing with Luke, the arrogant, albeit moderately attractive, college intern her father has assigned to keep tabs on her.

In a hilarious “comedy of heiress” about family, forgiveness, good intentions, and, best of all, second chances, Lexi learns that love can be unconditional, money can be immaterial, and, regardless of age, everyone needs a little saving. And although she might have fifty-two reasons to hate her father, she only needs one reason to love him.

When I first heard about this book, I just finished Jessica Brody's other book, My Life Undecided, and I loved that book, so I instantly knew I needed to read 52 Reasons to Hate My Father. When I read the summary, I felt like the story was kind of predictable. It seemed so obvious that Lexi would go through these jobs and learn something about her father that would make her realize why he acts the way he does and end up reconciling with him. But that isn't quite what happens.

I really enjoyed reading about Lexi and how she handles all the different jobs thrown her way. Her first job was being a maid, and she had to look up a YouTube video to learn how to use a vacuum. There were always fun moments like that through out 52 Reasons to Hate My Father that made it fun to read.

Lexi's father was a mystery to me. Was he exactly as evil as Lexi thought he was? And the actual mystery behind Lexi's mom. Lexi's family was one big mystery to me that I couldn't figure it out because Lexi didn't know either. And it was really sad to see how secluded Lexi was when it came to her family. It seemed like she had no family, and it definitely makes sense with why Lexi acted the way she did.

I loved Luke, and I loved his relationship with Lexi. They both drove each other nuts, but they still did what they needed to do. Luke wants to be exactly like Lexi's dad so he was always so prim and proper and perfect with everything he did, and Lexi couldn't stand it. I love when relationships start out like this, when they can't stand each other. It makes it that much more sweeter when they get together.

I loved 52 Reasons to Hate My Father. It was a very fun and fast read, but it also had it's sentimental moments. I'd definitely recommend this book if you're in for a fun and lighthearted read.
