Arrow to the Sun

With vibrant colors and bold geometric forms, Gerald McDermott brilliantly captures the stylized look of Pueblo Indian art in this Caldecott Award-winning retelling of an ancient legend. A young boy searches for his father, but before he can claim his heritage he must first prove his worthiness by passing through the four ceremonial chambers: the kiva of lions, the kiva of snakes, the kiva of bees, and the kiva of lightning. Striking in its simplicity and grace, Arrow to the Sun vividly evokes the Native American reverence for the source of all life—the Solar Fire.

This book as an award-winning paperback is on my wishlist to have in our library. I was able to read it through the Audible with pictures edition that is in the Kindle Freetime Unlimited library, soon to be known as Kids+. I really enjoy the Audible with picture editions, I wish they were more easily marked and we would buy more of them. The illustrations are so different to me but stand out so strongly in the telling of folktale. I am not familiar with many of these tales but I do believe that I would enjoy having several Gerald McDermott stories on our shelf.
