The Darkest Dark: Glow-in-the-Dark Cover Edition

by Chris Hadfield

The internationally bestselling picture book, now with a glow-in-the-dark cover! Inspired by the childhood of real-life astronaut Chris Hadfield and brought to life by Terry and Eric Fan's lush, evocative illustrations, The Darkest Dark will encourage readers to dream the impossible.

Chris loves rockets and planets and pretending he's a brave astronaut, exploring the universe. Only one problem--at night, Chris doesn't feel so brave. He's afraid of the dark.
But when he watches the groundbreaking moon landing on TV, he realizes that space is the darkest dark there is--and the dark is beautiful and exciting, especially when you have big dreams to keep you company.

I received this book from Early Reviewers at LibraryThing.

This is a wonderful picture book by Canadian astronaut, Chris Hadfield. The story of the main character, a young boy named Chris, is based on Hadfield's own childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. This is the kind of picture book my kids would have loved and it would have surely become a family favourite. The overlying theme is that dreams can come true, especially if one is willing to work hard to make it so.

For such a short story, there's a lot going on in this book. The artwork, by the Fan brothers, is great and there are lots of different things to pick up by looking closely at the pictures. There is also a short biography of Hadfield at the end of the book, as well as a page of photographs.

This is a great picture book, that any family with young children should add to their shelves.
