Dangerous to Know by Megan Whitson Lee

My rating is 3.5 Stars

Isabella knew well the cautions in Scripture to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. She also knew that Lord Bromley was not a believer. Despite that, she was drawn to him with a pull she should have resisted. But she didn’t.

Dangerous to Know is a well-written book with a strong warning message to believers. The characters are well developed and have lots of depth. This story, however, is dark. In some ways it made me think of Gone with the Wind in the way the characters kept making destructive choices. Though there is hope at the end of the book, it is not a happy ending per se.

Sometimes I find that the star rating definitions are inadequate due to the fact they describe my liking of the book versus the quality of the writing. It does make sense, but I feel bad not giving this story a higher rating. Even so, the reality is, it was a bad fit for me. The poor choices made and ensuing consequences caused my stomach to churn. I know that I am very sensitive to this kind of thing, so if you like stories that deal with the darker side of human nature, you will probably enjoy this one.
