Things in the Well is a Tasmanian press publishing great anthologies and collections. Steve Dillon believes in quality and entertainment value; two traits that don't always cross paths in the world of small press. Having read and loved The Impossible Gift, the closing story in this collection, as well as Matthew's work elsewhere, I decided to grab a copy, and I'm glad I did. The book opens and closes with a heartfelt tale of love and loss. These are memorable and touching stories. Between them, the reader ventures into stranger territory, with an invitation to an abandoned house and another to an orgy. These are entertaining horror tales in which atmosphere, imagination, and characterisation drive the plots.
