Love and loyalty run deeper than blood. St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

I've seen Vampire Academy in the past when I've been browsing books either in store or online and I just skipped over them. Once I got into the book blog world, I saw more and more good things about them and got more excited to read them each time. I can't believe I never gave them a try because they are amazing!

Vampire Academy starts off kind of vague and I think that is what really catches your attention. Rose is a badass and I love that she is so headstrong. There are times where I just want to slap her, but other times where I'm completely on her side. She is so real and isn't afraid to just be who she is and say what she feels. I love that she isn't royal because honestly, her personality is more fit for a guardian and I couldn't imagine her being okay with someone else protecting her.

I love Lissa too because she is the shy and quiet one who thinks rationally. She and Rose go so well together because they balance each other out. Rose protects and cares for Lissa, but Lissa kind of helps Rose to keep in check otherwise I'm sure she would be in more trouble.

And what good would a vampire book be without some hot vampire guy? I love how each of the three guys, Dimitri, Mason, and Christian, are so different from one another. You got Dimitri who plays by the rules and is the adult, but he has his times where he is a pretty laid back guy. Mason is the guy that you can always count on to be there if you need him. And Christian is just the bad boy.

There is so much information that is packed into Vampire Academy, but it manages to still have a plot that keeps you interested. Very rarely do I ever finish a book in a matter of two days but I just couldn't put it down. There isn't as much action as I hoped there would be. Since things are just getting started, it still leaves you wanting more in the end and anxious to find out what is going to happen.

I'm not crazy about these covers, but in a way, they fit. They're kind of mysterious looking and they leave you to wonder a lot.
