I found this book gripping and interesting but I think 'enjoyed' is the wrong word to use given the nature of the story. Having read the reviews, I was concerned about the level of violence in the book. However, I think that, although very graphic, it fit with the story being told and gave the reader a sense of the atmosphere at the time.

I found the stories of the Rachels fascinating, especially the earlier ones, I wasn't so keen on the last one, I think her story possibly could have been developed further. It was interesting to see the same characteristics showing through throughout the generations.

I think my favourite Rachel was the Venetian one, there was just something abuot her that clicked with me.
