Exit Strategy by Martha Wells

Exit Strategy (Murderbot Diaries, #4)

by Martha Wells

Murderbot wasn’t programmed to care. So, its decision to help the only human who ever showed it respect must be a system glitch, right?

Having traveled the width of the galaxy to unearth details of its own murderous transgressions, as well as those of the GrayCris Corporation, Murderbot is heading home to help Dr. Mensah - its former owner (protector? friend?) - submit evidence that could prevent GrayCris from destroying more colonists in its never-ending quest for profit.

But who’s going to believe a SecUnit gone rogue?

And what will become of it when it’s caught?

This is the final novella, but I am beyond excited for Network Effect, releasing in May 2020. It will be a full-length Murderbot story and I hope they’ve secured Free as the narrator!

OK, enough fangirling back to Exit Strategy. Our Murderbot has evidence against the GrayCris Corporation, but Dr. Mensah is in trouble and our SecUnit plans to save her first.

Wow! From growth to unraveling what has happened, Wells provided an intense and entertaining ride. Our SecUnit is discovering friendship, feelings and more. I love his inner dialogue and disgust at himself as he realizes he cares. I laughed when he displayed some rather colorful human expressions and sighed when he experienced the joy of holding someone’s hand.

The geek in me, got my freak on with as he slipped into port systems, maps and overroad everything from trains to front loaders.

Kevin R. Free gave such a stellar performance for this series. He became the SecUnit and characters. He brought an AI to life and showcased the humor, snark and logical thinking Wells brought to our Murderbot. Free and Wells are a good pairing and I hope they continue together.
