This story was a bit darker than the romantic suspense I usually stick to. I thought the love story was a little rushed and Declan's two personalities gave me a litte whiplash. I thought Evie, the heroine, was a strong character that rose above her flaws and her traumatic past. I couldn't decide whether she was fiercely loyal and openhearted or just plain self destructive. Mona was a maternal figure to both Declan and Evie and her matchmaking hi-jinks was both comical and sweet. Her badass mafia side was equally awesome. I thought her final scene could have had a more powerful punch to it, I was left feeling a little slighted with the quick wrap-up of the final stand. I thought Evie's backstory was very intriguing, I was able to guess parts of what had happened to her, but the author added another dimension that really brought Evie full circle. Her and Declan compliment each other perfectly, both broken yet reluctantly open to love. I always love when two characters are brought together by unforseen circumstances and forced to cohabitate. Overall I thought it was a pretty good read and I will definitely look out for future books by Sara Hubbard, I think she will only get better from here! This book was reviewed by a member of the review staff at Cocktails and Books.
