I’ve been walking around in a bubble of joy because of this book, and in the year of our lord 2020, that is an achievement unto itself. Thus, I can thank my contrarian self for waiting so long to read it, despite myriad recommendations, because a) it’s spoiled me for other books of its stripe, and b) I really needed it now.

I have a feeling there will be plenty of books now that make me go, “But— Toby! But Laurie,” and I just re-read this one instead. If you need a bubble of joy, and are a fellow contrarian, I’ll be one of those people recommending Alexis Hall like an antidote.
