Naomi is in her forties and struggling with her new reality. Her ex, the man who dumped her, is making the change difficult. She will need to support herself, reconnect with her children and figure out who she is.

Circumstances have her moving back to Canada and into the lakeside home her grandmother left in a trust. She is shocked to find the house exactly as she remembered it. She’s excited to reconnect with a childhood friend, but the house is strange and she cannot shake the sinister vibes she feels.

A hot and annoying neighbor, rumors of a lake monster, and the town believing her family cursed them are only a few of the problems Naomi encounters.

When we arrived at the lake house and I wanted answers. I even had a few laughs as Naomi met the neighbor and townsfolk. However, the lake monster and Naomi’s lost childhood memories frustrated me, as did her friends who kept saying you aren’t ready to know yet.

I will say the story hooked me in the second half as the author revealed things to us and the villains emerged.

Nicole Poole did a magnificent job of capturing Naomi’s insecurities and struggles to define herself as she moved beyond the shadow of wife/mother. I’ve always enjoyed Nicole’s narrations and felt she enhanced the overall story. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
