Locomotive

by Brian Floca

The Caldecott Medal Winner, Sibert Honor Book, and New York Times bestseller Locomotive is a rich and detailed sensory exploration of America's early railroads, from the creator of the "stunning" (Booklist) Moonshot.

It is the summer of 1869, and trains, crews, and family are traveling together, riding America's brand-new transcontinental railroad. These pages come alive with descriptive details of the journey: the sounds, speed, and strength of the mighty locomotives; the work that keeps them moving; and the thrill of travel from plains to mountain to ocean.

Come sit inside the caboose, feel the heat of the engine, watch the landscape race by. Come ride the rails, come cross the young country!

This book is amazing! The illustrations are beautiful. Usage of font sizes emphasizes appropriately the excellent text as well as font varieties. These add vivid detail and interest as well. this is a large size book, but it is a beauty. Educational on trains, history, and American geography. This is a fabulous addition to any shelf. Highly recommended!

Thanks to Simon & Schuster.

I'm still amused that I have a copy of this book from before it was the dual award winner that it is. Part of me wants to get a new copy to have those medals on the cover. Today, I discovered this book is in the Kindle Freetime Unlimited library and I read it again. I love it just as much. I am glad I have the hardcover copy that we can pour-over, but the Kindle eBook is nice as well. The Kindle eBook is done well with the double-tap to enlarge the text and swipe to next and so on. Well done.
